Work space

OK so I haven't shared with everyone the lovely story of my work life. I started here December 13th, 2005 so I have been here almost 4 months. I am loving the job I do here, I just have a little problem with the working space we are provided with. Let me first inform you of a little history of people I work with............ Natalie started here about 3 weeks before I arrived. She was in Las Vegas the week I started and I did not meet her until the Friday after I started (on the Tuesday). Natalie is an awesome person and I am so thankful I have someone here that keeps me amused all day long with her jibber jabber and jokes. She has 2 kids; Jory and Abby (spelling?). I have only met Abby as she came to my very first Mary Kay party and I was able to spend some time with her doing her make-up and playing with stuffed animals. Natalie is probably the one person here who I chat with everyday all day long. Brenda also worked with me for a little bit. She was only here for about 2-3 weeks after I started and so there is nothing really else to say here. Grace (a good friend of Natalie's) started in January with us, but has also left and so again not a lot to say here. Terry just started this week with us. I worked with Terry formally at Manulife in my days there. She is the cutest little person. Honestly she really is little. She is about 4 foot 9 inches and weighs maybe 100 pounds! She is just adorable and keeps Natalie and me on track when we get a little distracted from the work we should be doing. OK so now that the history of a couple people is out, I am going to share our little situation we have on our hands. The three of us (Terry, Natalie and I) share an old storage room for our work stations. We have about 100 square feet between the 3 of us. There are 2 cubicles and a desk shoved in this little room so you can just imagine the "closeness" we all feel to each other. Good things do come from this as well though as we get to share stories, share junk food, laugh all day long and not be disturbed by anyone. The other thing is, no matter how loud we get and how much noise we make, there is no one close enough to be able to hear us and therefore yell at us :) Maybe one day we will each get a space of our own, but right now that is looking doubtful (shoulder shrug).

CBC Special

Hi everyone! This was sent by a lady that did the Calgary walk for Breast Cancer last year. I wanted to share with all of you. Her words: "This is definitely worth reading. Even though I walked for breast cancer last year and many Canadians raised millions of dollars I always knew they were not interested in finding a cure for or for preventing it for that matter. There is no money if they choose the path of prevention, only healthy men and women. The money is in the drugs prescribed for treatment. It’s a shame that the Canadian government and the drug companies have done nothing in the war to prevent cancer. Today in my circle of friends I know 5 women with breast cancer. I find that very disturbing! " A repeat of the original CBC newscast is scheduled for this Sunday on Marketplace. Watch it!" Check out this web page from CBC News Marketplace:

Roomies

The term roommate did not become reality to me until Sleep Country showed up at 11 am Saturday morning with my new roommie's bed. It was delivered and from there in Saturday was spent hauling clothes, boxes and garbage bags full of "stuff" up and down stairs. (I knew there would be a disadvantage to living on the top floor of my building eventually) All-in-all the day went well and we were settling down by about 10 that night. "Beau Seafuss" also joined my humble abode Saturday along my roomie. He is an adorable little black tabby that looks identical to my Roxy. He still has the kitten spunk in him so it was an interesting day yesterday with him running around like a nutcase and attacking Roxy whenever he got the chance. He is the sweetest little angel though, walking around, curious as ever, meowing and finding new places he could hide in. Roxy seems a little hostile towards this new creature that all of a sudden showed up in her life. I think it put her a bit put of joint having this boisterous little thing running around playing with all her toys. Alas, at about 11 pm last night, the 2 of them were kissing amidst the low growls that still pop up now and then. This week should be interesting for them as my roomie and I are both away at work and school so the 2 of them have a some bonding time with no interruptions of concerned Mommies not wanting any injuries!

Unbelievable

So it really makes me wonder how parents can be so irresponsible.... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11982453/

Nothing

OK so today's blog is about absolutely nothing, I just thought I owed it to everyone to write one up. Let's start out with the insane weather Calgary has been experiencing lately. I feel like I'm back in my parent's native land (near Birmingham, England) where the fog never lifts and it is always cold and wet, no matter what day of the week or what season of the year you are in. Be aware that once you arrive there and go to unpack your suitcase, your clothes WILL (guaranteed) have a nice mildew smell to them and will definitely be a tad damp. The humidity and heavy fog that exists there will make this a pleasant and everlasting experience for you to remember always. The rare day that it is warm there you may get a nice 10 degrees, but that's about as good as it gets. Anyways....Back to Calgary weather. I have not seen the sky now since last night at about 7:50 pm and it is now 7:15 am. The fog is thick and cold, the forecasters are calling it 'ice fog'. It is currently -1 and feels about -10. Now if you know me, as a lot of you do, you know that I am very frequently, freezing cold. I can never seem to get warm or stay warm unless you lock me in a tanning bed or send me away to Mexico or Hawaii. (I wish....ahhh dreams) Therefore, due to this horrid weather we have been experiencing, I have not felt warm or relatively close to that state in about 2 weeks! Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, please shine down on me! Now onto another subject, hmmmm let's see. Ok let's talk about people's annoying habits. Firstly, I despise feet and I find that so many people get the idea that it is ok to sit there and pick your toe nails, rub your feet, show off blisters, etc. IN PUBLIC. Are you kidding me; like really, what would possess you to do this disgusting task. That's what your bathroom at home is for. Secondly, I cannot stand the chewing of gum while public speaking. Really do the audience need to see you chew that gum like a cow chews grass all day long? Or the way a horse seems to enjoy hay when shoving it through it's maulers?!?! Really people, think about what you are doing. You are an example to your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and honestly, do you not have anything better to do than put shame into the human name??? So in closing, Mr. Sunshine please come and visit me soon. And for all the people picking your toes or chewing that gum during presentations, GET A LIFE! Ciao

Direction please?!?!?!

OK so I have a dilemma today. I'm watching all these people in my life get on with their lives' and go to school, get an education for a career and just generally have a direction in life. I DONT YET! I know that where I am now (career-wise) is not where I want to be for the rest of my life. I know I want to go back to school. What to take is where I am hitting road blocks. I have no idea whatsoever which industry is the best fit for me. Education (I tried this one), Engineering (tried this one too, although probably didn't give it a fair chance), Sales, etc. Does anyone know? Can anyone help me? On another note, I have made a great start to my life with the purchase of my condo. Everyone says "oh you are doing so well for your age, you have a brand new condo, you have a great job". This is all true and I must keep my head up and remember all of these things. Anyone else ever feel this way about your life? Let me know. Chat with you all again soon xxxxx Stephie

Who needs ankles anyways

And yet again another story that only a clutz like me could write about and be telling the truth. Last Wednesday we were heading out to the Salt Lik for Christina's birthday dinner. We got as far as the road outside Nina's house before I decided that the night needed a little more excitement! Walking towards Teagan's car, the road was icy and I did not seem to be too bothered about this fact. Hence why I ended up wiping out and doing some damage to my ankle (left this time; for anyone that remembers I have fractured my right ankle twice already). After hopping around whining about the pain for about 4 minutes I decided to get in the car and we were off to dinner. Well we made it to the restaurant and had a great dinner and dessert for Nina on her birthday! My ankle was feeling a little better so off I went home. Once I got there I realized a minor problem I was going to encounter. My ankle had swollen enough that the boot I had on was not coming off with any ease. Christina and I got my boot off and seeing the swelling decided that we were off to Foothills to get it checked out. Well this is where the story starts getting ridiculous. 1st visit - After 9 or 10 x-rays (it was 1 o'clock in the morning, I can't remember how many times that silly machine beeped) the nurse called my injury inconclusively a 2nd degree sprain and a possible hair-line fracture. Nina and I left at 2 am with me in a wheelchair and my ankle in a tensor. 2nd visit - Friday rolled around and I was still unable to get anywhere without my crutches so I headed to my doctor's office. Their diagnosis was that I had pulled/torn ligaments and a fracture! They had to await the xrays from the hospital though so once again I leave with a tensor and my crutches. 3rd visit - I went to the doctor's again last night as my xrays were in and confirmed that there is no fracture in the ankle. Instead, I have ripped the sh*t out of my ligaments. These were my doctor's own words! So I get to walk around with my handy dandy crutches and a brace around my ankle for the next 4 months. Doesn't that sound like a blast. I also have to start attending physio sessions immediately if there is a chance I can be walking within a few weeks here. So there you go everyone............clutz of the world has another exciting episode that tells the story of my life!
