Happy Birthday to me!!!

OK so I'm not a big birthday person, never really have been but this year was a little more special and meaningful to me as I was going to be turning 22 on the 22nd. This is a very spiritual holiday to some people and I just thought it was awesome because the best number in the world is 22 and here I was Turning 22 on the 22nd. How much more 22 could you get??!?! I have had some comments from friends on what I got and why it's been such a while since I updated my blog so here you go guys. Let's see where to start. Flowers were sent to my office the day before my birthday from my 2 girlfriends at the restaurant and they are absolutely beautiful (see pictures below).

Then, I went for dinner the birthday with both Grandmas, Mom and Dad and of course Holly. We went to my favourite spot, Red Lobster! Oh did I ever feast. You have to understand that I never get to go here as Dad hates it and will never join the party when we go. After that I went down to the Bees (where I work, the restaurant) and joined some friends for some bevies. We then headed to BP'S next door and continued with the bevies. Then it was time for home to get some rest before my actual big day came. When I awoke, my birthday seemed like just another day. Unfortunately, I was headed to the hospital with my Grandma as she was having a Masectomy done that same day. I ensured her that this was a good thing as what better day could there be for her to become Cancer free than my birthday and my 22nd to top it all off. So into surgery we got Grandma, my Mom and I had a little bite to eat at the Cafeteria there and then awaited the news that Grandma was out of surgery. Sure enough it came about 4pm and everything had gone smoothly. We got to see Grandma about 7pm and all was well so we headed home for the evening. (On a side note, let me just mention that hospitals are very draining when all you get to do is sit there all day waiting around for good or bad news). Next I got home to a surprise; someone had decorated my house with streamers and confetti and a home made birthday cake. There was a champagne bottle and glasses, a Roxy sweater and a beautiful picture frame that some other girlfriends from the restaurant had got for me.

After we were actually in the door, my Mom confessed that she had given my spare keys to my friends so they could surprise me by doing all this for me. I literally stood in my door way crying I was so surprised and happy.

BUT WAIT, that's not it. I then got a surprise visit from a good friend who had bought me Purdy's chocolates and a little pink stuffed kitty cat that meows when you squish it's tummy! So adorable. Then we went and saw Borat at the theatre to end the night off. And after all of this, I still got to go out Friday night with friends and have a blast at the bar!!

I must be the luckiest person alive to have friends like you girls (you know who you are). THANK YOU EVERYONE xoxoxoxox

The little things in life

So a few nights ago at the restaurant I had a couple that came in and truly 'touched' me and made me realize that life means too much to dwell on the negatives and to try and make everything in life a positive experience. They are a part of our normal 'church crowd' that we get on Sunday nights, but they had come in for a nice dinner to themselves this particular night. They ordered their usual and I was training a new server so I didn't get to chat with them a whole lot as I normally do. At the end of their dinner I set their bill on the table and ran into the kitchen to get something. I walk out of the kitchen and the wife of the couple is standing at our debit machine waiting to pay. So I am just about to swipe her debit card through and she stops me. I was told to add the bill of another completely different table I had to theirs. Now this other table was a young couple that had come in for the same reason, a nice dinner out. They were a nice, quiet couple that kept to themselves but were right beside my other couple. And so curiosity got the best of me and had to ask whether she knew the younger couple and whether that was why she was paying for their dinner. Her reply was 'no' and that I was a messenger for her and that when the young couple came to pay for their dinner I was to inform them that she had paid for their dinner and wished for them to have a happy and fulfilling life together. I did so went he young gentlemen came to pay and I have never seen a look of such appreciation and shock on a person's face before. I could tell that as I let him know what the older couple had done, his mind starting whirling about thinking about why they had done this. At the end of my shift I went to do my cash out as usual and oddly enough I was up by about $14 by my calculations. I double and triple checked all my calculations and even my Manager went over everything with me and said it must have been mine from before. But, as I am leaving the restaurant I notice a little note on my windshield of my car. It was the older couple's bill with a note attached saying that I had been chosen by them to be a messenger to other people to make somebody's day/life better and that I had succeeded beyond belief just by being myself and that was why they had chosen to leave me a few extra dollars. I started crying right then and there in the middle of the Applebee's parking lot at 11:30 at night. I have never been so touched and moved in my life before. And as most of you know from speaking to me lately, I have not had the best few weeks and so this was a sign sent to me to let me know that everything is going to be OK and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. So for those of you who have just read this and think it will never happen to you, or maybe you are going through a rough time right now, know that there is always something good going to happen, you just have to believe it will and want it bad enough. Everyone is truly blessed, whether you believe you are or not.
